Fred Dailey has held many titles, but none is more important to him than "Family Man". Fred has been happily married to his wife Rita for 39 years. They have three grown children and five grandchildren. Family has always been Fred’s top priority, and still to this day, you can often find Fred spending time with family and playing with his grandchildren. Fred Dailey was inspired to run for Congress because he believes the American Dream is under attack, and he is concerned that his grandchildren will not have the same opportunities that he had.

Growing Up in Ohio

As a child, Fred Dailey learned the values of working hard, honoring your parents, loving your country and giving thanks to God for your blessings. Fred grew up in a modest farm house, where for many of his formidable years, didn't even have a running toilet. Fred’s parents may not have been financially wealthy, but they gave Fred a moral compass and instilled in Fred the traditional Ohio values that we hold dear.

As a young man, with only a few dollars in his wallet, Fred went off to college. Fred worked his way through his first year for college, but then he was then sent off to war. Fred served America as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. Fred Dailey is a patriot who loves America. Just like he fought in combat, Fred is ready to fight on the battlefield of ideas for freedom and liberty. When Fred returned home from Vietnam, he got back to his studies, served as captain of the wrestling team, president of the senior class and earned his bachelor degree from Anderson College and his master’s degree from Ball State University.

When terrorists decided to target commercial airline flights, Fred was chosen by the United States Treasury to serve as one of the first federal Air Marshals. Fred then returned to Ohio to work at the Ohio Beef Council and Ohio Cattlemen’s Association. As President of the Ohio Cattlemen’s Association, Fred quadrupled the membership of the organization. In 1991, because of Fred’s commitment to Ohio agriculture, he was appointed as Director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture --- a post he held for 16 years. Fred Dailey is the longest serving director in Ohio history. Fred’s leadership protected Ohio’s number one industry, created jobs, and helped increase productivity. Most importantly, Fred was a good steward of tax dollars and was successful in making the Department of Agriculture more efficient. An award-winning leader, Fred Dailey is an Ohio success story. Fred Dailey can often be found working his farm with his wife Rita by his side. But Fred Dailey has also been working by our side his entire life. Fred Dailey is optimistic about our future because he believes we live on the sunrise side of Ohio…and a new day is about to dawn.
