Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
December 24, 2009
Merry Christmas from Fred Dailey and his campaign. We wish you and your family good will and good luck in this New Year.
Christmas in the Country
by Fred Dailey
I’ve spent Christmas on the highway
Driving a snowy road.
I’ve spent Christmas in the sunny south
Where lawns are green and mowed.
Some I’ve spent in cities,
Two with Uncle Sam,
One at Ft. Knox, Kentucky
And one in Vietnam.
I’ve spent Christmas many places,
But the one of which I’ll boast
Is Christmas in the country
They’re the ones I like the most.
With yule log, tree and wreath
All from the farm woodlot,
It makes us kind of thankful
For the bounty that we’ve got.
A fire that’s warm and crackling,
A woodshed full of ash,
Family, friends and blessings,
They’re better far than cash.
And when it comes to Christmas chores
On this special day,
We feed the cows, calves and horse
An extra measure of hay.
And when the cows are bedded
Deep in the yellow straw,
It’s easy to remember
The beginning of it all.
Now I still like ole Rudolph
And elves at their bench,
T.V. specials about the Scrooge
And let’s not forget the Grinch.
But I love to see the frosty breath
From cattle as they low
And children pulling homemade sleds
Through pastures thick with snow.
Christmas in the country
Enriches all our lives
And imprints our memory
With scenes of Currier and Ives.
You can have your tinsel
And even your Wassail toast.
I’ll take Christmas in the country,
It’s the one I like the most
